WHAT IS TRAUMA?
Trauma is not what has happened to you, but rather the internal wounds,
feelings, and memories caused by what happened to you, what didn't happen,
or what you were witness to.
Most people will experience trauma at some point in their life, even if they don't recognize it as trauma.
Trauma is sometimes diagnosed as PTSD or CPTSD by a psychiatrist,
sometimes it is misdiagnosed as a presenting issue such as borderline, panic disorder or anxiety disorder.
Most often people have some form of trauma yet do not carry an official diagnosis because of not being able to get the
adequate help, or professionals are looking to diagnose something else...
Whatever brings you to this point, you are welcome to see me for 1:1 online counselling & psychotherapy.
Healing does not occur from the way you think about it,
if it did, you would have thought yourself better by now...
Traumatic 'events' are diverse, you may have experienced:
-
ACE's: adverse childhood experiences
-
All abuse (if you feel it was abusive, it's abuse)
-
Bereavement, loss & traumatic bereavement
-
Birth, Medical procedures & surgery
-
Childhood trauma & developmental trauma
-
Drug / substance use experiences
-
A natural disaster
-
Near-death experiences, accidents & injuries
-
Neglect, loneliness, not feeling loved
-
Psychotic episodes
-
Witnessed to or impacted by crimes
Trauma symptoms can be far-reaching,
you may have:
-
Addictions & self soothing behaviours
-
Difficult emotions such as anger, depression, rage, shame, numb, and loss
-
Dissociation/spacing/zoning out
-
Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, exhaustion
-
Flashbacks - emotional - physical - images - bad memories
-
Feelings of being 'on-edge' or 'shut down'
-
Low libido/sex drive
-
Nightmares & sleep disorders
-
Unexplained pain & physical problems
There are many types of trauma, after all, trauma is a 'wound', and many things in life can cause internal wounds.
'Trauma' is a generic term and within this there, are more defined diagnoses. Two main categories of trauma diagnosis are Complex Trauma (CPSTD) & Acute Trauma (PTSD). Within these diagnoses sit a range of other mental health diagnoses such as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). As trauma can be such complex experience, many people carry a diagnosis of something as Trauma is not a diagnosis per se.
OTHER TYPES OF TRAUMA
Vicarious Trauma: the things that we are witness to, or are involved in as a third party, how other people's trauma affects us, this can also come with a diagnosis of PTSD.
Trans-generational Trauma: trauma that is passed down by our previous generations and ancestors. This could be seen in 'family traits'.
Trauma can leave you feeling empty, hurt, isolated and alone.
Trauma Therapy heals.

NCPS ACCREDITED, FULLY QUALIFIED, FULLY INSURED TRAUMA COUNSELLOR, IFS PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Experience:
I have over 20 years of experience in mental health services helping people recover from traumatic experiences, and the difficulties they cause.
I provide online trauma counselling & psychotherapy worldwide. Likewise, I bring many years of experience from working in Residential/Children's homes, NHS hospitals and clinics, UK Government departments, The Priory, 7 EAP Providers, Papyrus UK, Rehab Works/Vita Health, Relate, 60 Schools, & The Samaritans.
Today I only provide counselling and psychotherapy in private practice with private pay clients. I work this way because I found organizations and insurance companies restrictive to good psychotherapy. Working in private practice allows me to be creative and flexible in the way I work, so I can best help my clients recover.
How I work as an Online Trauma Psychotherapist:
I specialize in non-shaming, online and face to face 1:1 confidential psychotherapy to heal and transform from trauma. The approaches I use can be used as trauma focused therapies to help regulate trauma responses, without necessarily a need to talk about the traumatic experience/s.
Originally trained in Person Centred Therapy, I now describe myself as an Integrative Trauma Therapist utilizing some evidence-based approaches: AEDP, IFS Therapy, and EMDR within a Person-Centred approach.
I have furthered my training with:
-
AEDP - Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy
-
Brainspotting Therapy
-
CBT, DBT & Solution Focused Counselling
-
DBR & DBRS2 - Deep Brain Reorientating
-
Person Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy
-
EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
-
EMDR 2.0
-
EGO State Therapy with EMDR
-
EMI - Eye Movement Integration
-
IFS Therapy - Internal Family Systems - also known as 'Parts' Therapy (this is my core approach)
-
IFS informed EMDR Therapy
-
Inner Child Therapy
-
Clinical Hypnotherapy
-
Professional Supervision
-
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
-
Somatic Therapy

HOW DOES IT WORK?
From our first online therapy session, we will start where you're at.
I use ZOOM for my therapy sessions, and I can meet via FaceTime also if you give me notice before your appointment.
Unlike, the corporate organizations you'll find online, I offer a more personal type of online therapy. With me, you aren't limited to a few sessions to squash everything in, you aren't dictated to. I work with you in every therapy session, accompanying you through your recovery, you deal with me personally rather than an Online Therapy 'bot' or a Computerized CBT Self Help Programme (CCBT).
There is no prescriptive number of sessions, however, you will probably require more than one session for lasting change to occur.
Many people choose online therapy, so they get the therapist they want to see, and someone highly skilled in new trauma-informed therapies. Most often I integrate AEDP, DBR, EMDR, EMI, Brainspotting, IFS & Ego State Therapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Good therapy is much about what comes from within and what is released.
It takes an attuned and skilled therapist to help facilitate this process.
